Biking for a good cause in Cambodia
Siem Reap has certainly a lot of companies that are offering guided bike tours around Angkor Wat and the Cambodian countryside. But among all the commercial providers, I have found the tours of the non-profit organisation Khmer for Khmer Organization (KKO). KKO is offering some really nice bike and motorbike tours. You can find the description of all tours here. The tour fees are used to finance KKO and its projects like providing free English and computer lessons as well as vocational training. I really liked the idea and I have asked them a couple of questions to get a better understanding of their work: 1. How have you come up with the idea of combing your NGO work with guided bike tours? When we built up our NGO projects we needed something to finance them and we didn’t want to depend on donators too much. So this is how we came up with the idea of financing our projects with guided tours. 2. Which of your tours is the most popular one and what is unique about it? As the Angkor Archaeological Park is a big tourist attraction our Angkor Off Road Tour is the most popular tour. The […]
Da Lat – the paradise for outdoor lovers
If you are looking for a good place for an outdoor adventure in Vietnam, Da Lat is the place to go. Da Lat is located in the southern parts of the Central Highlands only 300 kilometres from Saigon. The city captivates its visitors with a charming town, a moderately cool climate, a peaceful atmosphere and a breath-taking landscape. You can reach the city by bus from all bigger cities in Vietnam. Alternatively, you can fly to Da Lat directly. The flights are very cheap. I got a ticket from Saigon to Da Lat for about 20 Euro. During my research about outdoor activities in Da Lat, I came across a wide range of different options. Here are my Top 4: 1. Canyoning When you are getting to Da Lat, everybody will talk about canyoning tours. I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t loved these tours. When you book the tour you have two options: A half-day tour and a full-day tour. Most people I talked to did the half-day tour and told me it is more than enough. Officially there is only one tour provider (Phat Tire Ventures) for canyoning tours in Da Lat. You can find an experience report about the […]
November Project: Free fitness movement across North America
Have you ever heart of the November Project? I came across the project during my research on free workouts and was quite impressed by their initiative. The free workouts are open to everybody. Regarding the website, the members vary from professional athletes to recent couch potatoes and consist of different exercises like hill sprints or core exercises that can be adapted to all fitness levels. The both founders Brogan Graham and Bojan Mandaric started the first free workout group in Boston in 2011. Since then almost 30 further workout groups have popped up all across North America. The workouts can be found in our Fitness for Freaks workout list. They usually take place in the mornings around 6 am. So, if you want to attend, you have to get up early. Although the name of the initiative is „November Project“ the sessions occur all around the year. The name comes from a document the founders shared to keep track of their progress. When they expanded the project, they stuck with the name.
